Thank You Danny Jones & Jon Acuff

Have you ever noticed when you buy a new car, all of the sudden, you start seeing your car everywhere?  It’s like everyone else decided to buy the same car you did.  The obvious is all of these people already had their car and you’ve just joined the tribe of folks with the same good taste.  Nonetheless, it took buying the car to realize how many of those cars were already out there.

I have found the same is true for blogging.  When you start a blog, you begin to realize how many blogs are out there and how much content is being produced on a minute by minute basis.  When you look at your brand spanking new blog in light of all of the blogging awesomeness out there, you realize your current 4 posts don’t exactly qualify your blog as being “content rich.”

In the middle of this realization, you ask one of your best friends to hold you accountable to produce content on a regular basis.  His response… post an announcement on Facebook for all his thousands of friends to read his Birmingham, AL friend’s blog he’s starting about lessons learned and found in a life lived.  Thank you, Danny Jones.

I read his post and then looked at my wife and said, “I’m going to need more content a lot faster than every Tuesday for the next year.”

After that, I made the decision I would do one post every day during the month of August.  That’ll produce some content!  I’m going to go from “Zero” to “Hero” in 31 days…  and I have no idea what I’m going to write about!

Fortunately, I have another friend in Jon Acuff.  Among the New York Times Bestselling books he’s written, he also has a course entitled, “30 Days of Hustle." It is a content rich program that teaches you how to set goals and then actually reach them. He doesn’t run it year-round, so you’ll want to sign up for his posts and be ready to join in when he starts it back up.

One of the principles he preaches is to set a reachable goal and then either cut the goal in half or double the time you’ve allotted to accomplish the task.  There is something about success that breeds success…  It’s another one of those things that should have been obvious.

So, thanks to Jon, I remembered to cut my goal in half and will be posting a new blog on all of the odd days during the month of August.  This post absolutely counts as my first.  Considering this is one of the months in the year with 31 days, I can use all the help I can get. Also, my family just got back from a much-needed lake trip with another family.  Anyone who has taken a vacation with their kids knows that a vacation with your kids is awesome, but you tend to come back more tired than you were when you left.  This was one of those trips.

Danny, thank you for the text this evening reminding me that I didn’t post anything on Tuesday, but you needed to know that you were to blame for my next 30 Days of Hustle – copyright Jon Acuff.  Jon, thank you for your inspiration.  I hope I do it justice.

3… 2… 1… Hustle!!
